Woollen spun

Dyed with Dock Leaves and Indigo

100% Shetland wool

100g / 220m (238yds)

Recommended needle size – 3.5mm – 4.5mm

Yarn from Shetland sheep reared in Burra Isle, Shetland. Clipped in Burra, June/July 2019. Spun in the UK.

This yarn has been been dyed with natural plant dyes. The colour has been fixed and rinsed well but to make sure there is no colour run, especially when making a garment with more than one shade, it is recommenced the yarn is rinsed in lukewarm water before use and hung up to dry.

A note about Indigo – You will probably find as you knit with yarn that has been dyed with indigo that your hands will become tinged with blue. This is perfectly normal and is due to the fact that the indigo molecules physically attach to the yarn rather than chemically like other dyes. You should avoid it coming into contact with light surfaces as the colour may rub onto it. You should also avoid using wooden needles unless you don’t mind them turning blue! This natural process will lessen over time.

If you are planning to knit a sweater or other large garment, please ensure that you buy the quantity you need at one time, as due to the nature of natural dying it is virtually impossible to replicate the colours exactly.
