I have been producing Langsoond yarn since 2017 using the wool from Shetland sheep from the crofts of several neighbours and friends and includes the fleeces from your own little flock. Each year the fleeces are collected, I sort them into colours and skirt them to remove any dirt and vegetation before sending them off to the Natural Fibre Company in Cornwall to be spun into lovely squishy yarn.
Langsoond is a double knit weight, 100% Shetland wool, woollen spun yarn and each skein of yarn is 100g, 220m/238yds. The coloured fleeces are blended together to give various shades of naturally coloured yarn; each year the shades available are slightly different depending on the colours of the fleeces sent away. Each skein is labelled with the colour name (often unique to that batch) and the year that fleece was clipped.
Langsound (pronounced Langsoond in Shetland) is the stretch of water along the east side of the isle of Burra that connects many of the crofts where the fleece comes from.
