I live and work on the island of Burra in Shetland just minutes from a beautiful sandy beach where I have spent many an hour.

After training and working as a marine biologist for a number of years I decided on a career change to fulfill my creative urges.  I attended an Art and Design course at the local college and then set up Donna Smith Designs in 2001.

I have a particular love of felt, and in particular pressed felt; I find its properties inspirational, so currently most of my designs use this material.  I find inspiration everywhere, but mainly it comes for the felt itself, I can spend hours moving around felt shapes to make a design I am happy with, a bit like fuzzy felt!

My work can be ordered online or can be bought in several shops and galleries thoughout the country.  If you are a shop looking to stock my products please send me an email for details.

Currently I work at home and work two days a week in various schools around Shetland as a science technician (to get my science fix!).
